SCHOOL MAGAZINE COVER & CONTENTS PAGE EVALUATION

1.    In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of other school magazines?

  • Why did you design the magazine cover/contents page the way you did? To attract my target audience and to compete against others with the same target audience
  • Why those colours? I choose Red and Black because they are more of the rebellious side to life colours and also the colours are not inviting which shows that the magazine is more on the rock side rather than a glam pop magazine.
  • Why those photos? My photo represents the style of a rocker, with an I don’t give a f*** attitude and not really caring what he/she looks like.
  • Why those headlines/articles? The headlines and articles are there because they help imply that the magazine is a rock magazine and it helps to draw the attention of its target audience.
  • Why that layout? I choose the layout because it isn’t neat around the corner; it is messy like the attitude of a rocker.
  •  Why that tone/register? I used the tone and register because my target audience are interested in that language and use it quite often.
  • Did you subvert the codes and conventions? No

2.    How does your media product represent particular social groups?

  • How has your magazine ‘re-presented’ your TA, and the social groups in your magazine. My magazine re-presents my target audience because it gives them something to influence from and talks about the subjects that they talk about in everyday life.
  • How have you tried to illustrate this? – Tone/register, photography styles, mise-en-scene and costume/style choices? My mise-en-scene is a subject that my targets audience all can relate to because the influence from their favourite band playing a musical instrument is something that helps them express their emotion and feelings. The tone and register is like the everyday words and expresses they use.
  • Have you purposely tried to show your TA or chosen group in a particular way? How and why? No, I haven’t because even though my target audience have the same style of living they are all different and unique in their own way and I have tried to show that by having a variety of different topics to relate with each and every one of them.

3.    Who would be the audience for your media product?

  • Describe your target audience: age, gender, aspirations, hobbies, interests, fashion, shopping habits, technology usage, reading interest, TV/internet/music habits, social activities etc and relate this to how you designed your magazine. My target audience are rock/ indie people who all have different unique styles but also like the same sort of topics. My magazine is for both gender and can relate to everyone. My target age would be in between 16-24, this can help both the older generations with where to go and what to do, and can also influence the younger generations with what to do later on in life and also the present and help them for later on in life. The aspirations of my target audience would be along the lines of wanting to be in a band, career driving along the lines of the music, media and film industry. They also enjoy music and watching their favourite bands in local pubs etc., photography, writing with their emotions and watching old movies. Including in this they might have a journal and like to document their everyday life.

4.    How did you attract/address your audience?

  • Does your magazine attract the correct target audience… describe and discuss how and why it does attract or, of course does not! [styling, font/colour choices, tone/register, photography styles, features, promotions etc]  my magazine attracts the correct target audience because I use the colours and the language that they can relate to and use as part of their lives, I try to write for my target audience to relate to my magazine and feel like they know my emotions and feeling. My features and promotions relate to everything that they would want to know and talk about in their everyday lives and with their mates, the items that they want or have got and what else they can do with this technology. The front cover image is a rocker styled mise en scene and absorbs the reader.
